This found-object assemblage is a tiny tribute to peace, or at least a sense of peace and well-being. Set within the box are bits of nature—birch bark, dried greenery, moss, natural bark paper. This all serves to frame an antique photo of a person in a boat on calm water. Seeming to spill out of the box is an antique bottle filled with strips of paper and bark.
The text along the bottom face is an excerpt from Gerard Manley Hopkins' poem Heaven-Haven, and it reads
"I have asked to be where no storms come, where the green swell is in the havens dumb, and out of the swing of the sea."
I use this text quite a bit because it's one of my favorites and rings true.
Created in a small vintage drawer, the assemblage measures 5.75" x 5" and 2" deep, and it is designed to be displayed on a bookshelf or table with your other treasures.

MY ARTIST STATEMENT—Painting is a daily ritual for me, as I continue to discover ways to express myself through art. My goal is to create artwork that represents how I see the world around me—or how I hope it could be, a place where mercy, benevolence, and peace are commonplace and can be found around any corner, under any tree, or beside any stream. At the same time, I desire to create meaningful work that others forge a deep connection to and bring into their own home as a unique expression of who they are.
