This found-object assemblage features a book-loving quote by Virginia Woolf, along with an enchanting image titled "A Girl Reading A Letter by Candlelight" (Joseph Wright, 1762). In the scene, miniature manuscripts bound in leather and twine are stacked up with bits of moss, a vintage key, and a chandelier bauble. You'll also spy a stack of vintage envelopes from far-away places and a door hinge decorated with wire and vintage beads.
The quote reads—"Books are the mirrors of the soul."
Yes, the assemblage is lit up by a small light hidden behind the quote. It attaches with a magnet, so you can simply reach in with a gentle touch and remove it to turn the light on or off. Then snap it back into place.
The assemblage measures 5" x 11" and is 5.5" deep, and it is designed to be displayed on a bookshelf or table with your other treasures.
NOTES:
• The Wright painting, printed on cotton fabric, is modified to exclude a jealous boy reading over the girl's shoulder. Notice how at peace she is without interference.
• The light's battery should operate for approximately 50 hours and is easily replaceable.

MY ARTIST STATEMENT—Painting is a daily ritual for me, as I continue to discover ways to express myself through art. My goal is to create artwork that represents how I see the world around me—or how I hope it could be, a place where mercy, benevolence, and peace are commonplace and can be found around any corner, under any tree, or beside any stream. At the same time, I desire to create meaningful work that others forge a deep connection to and bring into their own home as a unique expression of who they are.
