This found-object assemblage has been created to honor reading—the joy of it, the love of it, the legacy of it. In its three compartments are small treasures—an antique bell, a collection of mini books created from publications from 1900 stacked with a vintage bauble and a pair of antique glasses, and a vintage finial set with a stereoscope of four little girls reading like cherubs. (just for fun, a corresponding stereoscope photo of those same children reacting to their brother’s misdeed is on the back)
In the center compartment is a quote from Victor Hugo, which reads, "To learn to read is to light a fire."
The assemblage is set within an antique sewing machine drawer with intricate detailing. It measures 4.5" x 13.5" x 3.5" deep, and it is designed to be displayed on a bookshelf or table with your other treasures, or displayed on a wall (fitted with wire for hanging).

MY ARTIST STATEMENT—Painting is a daily ritual for me, as I continue to discover ways to express myself through art. My goal is to create artwork that represents how I see the world around me—or how I hope it could be, a place where mercy, benevolence, and peace are commonplace and can be found around any corner, under any tree, or beside any stream. At the same time, I desire to create meaningful work that others forge a deep connection to and bring into their own home as a unique expression of who they are.
